Nature Valley has updated its Trail View interactive website, which launched last year giving users Google Street View views of trails in four national parks.

Again developed by McCann New York, Trail View 2.0 offers additional footage of 50 miles of trails in Sequoia National Park. The site also has more social media functionality (for example, Facebook users can share pictures, stories, and experiences) and offers basic access to Nature Valley Trail View via mobile devices, including downloadable PDFs of trail and park information.

We at Memoto wanted to find a way to relive more of our lives in the future – and enjoy the present as it happens. 

Why we’re doing this

Our search for the ultimate lifelogging device started with gathering people from all walks of life and asking them about their use of pictures and photographing. We let them try our very early prototypes of the camera and listened to their spontaneous thoughts about it. Then, we grouped their answers according to their expectations and needs:

21 Swings: Exercise in musical cooperation

Every spring, an interactive installation takes over a high-traffic area in Montréal’s Quartier des spectacles and sets a collective ritual. The installation offers a fresh look at the idea of cooperation, the notion that we can achieve more together than separately.

The result is a giant instrument made of 21 musical swings; each swing in motion triggers different notes, all the swings together compose a piece, but some sounds only emerge from cooperation.

The project stimulates ownership of the public space, bringing together people of all ages and backgrounds, and creating a place for playing and hanging out in the middle of the city centre.

A traveling version of the project is currently being made for these collective moments to spread around the world.

A new water-creating billboard in Peru helps tackle a serious problem — as well as projects a message of hope — in an area that’s long-faced water insecurity issues.

A university and an ad agency have built the first-ever billboard to capture air humidity and turn it into potable drinking water in Lima, the second largest desert capital in the world.

The University of Engineering and Technology of Peru and an ad agency called Mayo DraftFCBand created the structure for the residents who are forced to draw polluted water from wells.

“They could put this in different places if possible in each village, in each town…the water that gives us life,” Francisco Quilca, a Bujama District’s resident, told the university.

Peru gets less than two inches of rain a year and has an atmospheric humidity of about 98 percent, according to a video created by the university.

The billboard system uses reverse osmosis, a water purifying process, and then stores the water in tanks that hold 20 liters each. The water is dispensed at the bottom of the structure, which has provided 9,450 liters in three months, according to the school.

Microsoft has seen a vision of the future, and it involves a lot of Microsoft products. To coincide with the opening of the Microsoft Envisioning Center in Redmond, Washington, the software company released a video demonstrating a possible version of the future – except this is no concept video, but a vision of life in just five to ten years, with technology that we currently use. This isn’t science fiction, but potential reality.

The Envisioning Center shows a world where everything is voice and touch-activated, and technology that we are familiar with, such as tablets, are translated onto a larger scale. Every home would have a family wall – a 21st century fridge door – with picture displays, digital notes and the possibility to watch videos at the command of your voice. Work can be seamlessly integrated between devices with the swipe of a finger and skyping Grandma will have never been easier.
